Preventing and countering online hate speech in sports
“Hate is not a sport” is a project, funded by AICS, that proposes educational paths to prevent and counter hate speech in sports.
The project is promoted by the ONG CVCS in partnership with 7 Italian ONG with extensive experience in global citizenship education ( ADP, CeLIM, CISV, COMI, COPE, LVIA, MLAL World Project), the sports federation CSEN, the training agencies FormaAzione, SITMilano and SAA-School of management, Informatici senza Frontiere for the development of technological solutions and Tele Radio City for the communication campaign.
Hate speech is now characterized as not only a relevant part but a real structural dimension of sports conversations between online users. In this regard, we presented the Barometer of Hate in Sport, the first Italian research on online hate speech in sports by the CODER Center of the University of Torino, carried out by analyzing 443,567 conversations on Facebook and 16,991 on Twitter of the main Italian sports newspapers.
